| | The first tasting of 2006 was well attended and those lucky enough to attend enjoyed a wide selection of Spanish wines. Over 30 people attended the Saturday tasting held at Beth and Frank Yantek's home. In keeping with tradition the first tasting was a Bring Your Own Themed wine. This year the theme was Spanish wines along with tapas appetizers. The selection of wines showed the variance available from Spain. We had Gewurztraminers, Sherrys, Cavas, Sauvignon Blancs, Tempranillos, along with many other selections. |
Guest kept with the theme and brought a wonderful assortment of tapas dishes for everyone to enjoy. There was a wonderful assortment of Spanish cheeses, assorted shimp dishes, dips, shrimp, olives, tortillas (potato not mexican), garlic soup, sausages, and many other delightful dishes. The host created a fabulous Pealla for everyone's enjoyment. Dick Fruehwald did a great job of opening the wines in order of lightest to heaviest. He was even able to complete the calendar for the rest of the year later on. It is amazing what people will volunteer to do after tasting 30+ wines. The wines tasted are listed below. They are presented in the order they were put on the sign-up sheet not in the order we tasted. (Note - many of our members must have medical school backgrounds because their handwriting would make any doctor proud). In addition to the wines below we also had a homemade wine brought by Debby and Dean Mitchell which was handmade by Merlin Holland, the grandson of Oscar Wilde.
