January 21st Washington Red Tasting |

You are probably very familiar with the great taste of a Washington State grown apples. Many say the reason the apples have great color and taste is due to the large temperature swings between day and night. It is not uncommon to have a 30 to 40 degree swing in temperatures.
Those same factors are exactly what go into the making of a great red wine. While it is not the only factor, it does play an important part in the difference between a so-so wine and a great wine. While not as well known as their California or even Oregon counterparts the Red Wines from Washington are quickly gathering the critical acclaim they deserve. Washington is often associated with producing fine Merlots. This is very true, as they have had a huge success with many fine Merlots. But they are far from being restricted to one red grape variety. They have already proven they can produce some fine age-worthy cabernets that will stand up to the world’s finest wines.
Join the Cincinnati Chapter of AWS on January 21st as they host a tasting of Washington Reds. Learn for yourself how they compare with other regions throughout the world. It is always exciting to explore the unique characteristics of the various growing regions. The tasting will be held on January 21st at the Cincinnati Wine Warehouse.
The second tasting for this year will be hosted by one of our newest members Jens Rosenkrantz. If you have not met Jens he operates the wineshop "Cincinnati Wine Warehouse" conveniently located on Madison Road, near Plainville and Camargo Pike. You may know it by the former name "Cincinnati Wine Garage". It is an interesting story as to why the shop has a new name so be sure to ask Jens when you meet him. In addition to owning the wineshop Jens is a local pioneer in Wine Blogging. http://cinciwine.blogspot.com/
More details about the tasting will be posted soon but be sure to sign up early so you are sure not to miss this event.
