Some fans of white Burgundies and other wine-curious folk gathered on Sunday April 17, 2005 at the 1880's Victorian home of Ed and Carol Pfetzing to celebrate the end of tax season and great Spring weather. We met in the backyard and sampled a couple of Sauvignon Blancs from New Zealand, where Carol and Ed had recently visited. To begin our tasting we retired to the basement Rathskellar with its stone walls, fireplace, brick arches, and racks of dusty bottles quietly aging. Sampling by pairs, we proceeded through six rounds starting with relatively humble offerings and finishing with elevated bottlings. Afterwards we voted on favorites for quality and value excluding the last two that were generously donated by Dr. Herb Francis. As usual it was hard to vote for only two favorites from such a nice selection. At the conclusion Carol served us a tasty repaste of roasted chicken breast with pasta, baby carrots and salad. Our event ended with two delightful desserts from Le Cezanne pâtisserie. Many thanks to Carol and Ed for a charming afternoon of fine wines and hospitality! . | | | | | | Producer | Price | Quality | Value | | | | | | A & P de Villaine Bouzeron Aligote 2002 | $19.99 | 0 | 0 | | Louis Latour Montagny la Grand Roche 1er Cru 2002 | $15.99 | 1 | 5 | | Guillemette & Xavier Besson Givry Le Petite Preton 2002 | $19.99 | 0 | 0 | | Chateau Fuisse Pouilly Fuisse Le Clos 2002 | 37.99 | 7 | 9 | | Olivier Leflaive Saint-Aubin En Remilly 1er Cru 2003 | 28.99 | 2 | 8 | | Olivier Leflaive Saint-Aubin En Remilly 1er Cru 2003 | 70.49 | 2 | 1 | | Joseph Drouhin Beaune Clos des Mouches 2001 | 69.99 | 7 | 0 | | Yves Boyer-Martenot Meursault Les Perrieres 1er Cru 1999 | 61.99 | 8 | 4 | | Joseph Drouhin Corton Charlemagne Grand Cru 1997 | 79.99 | 8 | 0 | | Louis Latour Corton Charlemagne Grand Cru 1997 | 94.99 | 14 | 0 | | Pitoiset-Urena Meursault 1er Cru 1982 | N/A | N/A | N/A | | Bouchard Pere & Fils Montrachet 1981 | N/A | N/A | N/A | | | | | | .
