Zin Barbecue - July 8th PDF Print E-mail
July 8th is Cincinnati's AWS chapters annual Zinfandel Barbecue, starting at 3pm, at Thea Teich's in Finneytown.

Zin Barb

Zinfandel the mysterious grape.  For years it was an orphan searching for its parents without any luck. Adopted by the United States as its own, like many other world immigrants, it has made a wonderful home in our land. Recently it is believed the parents have been identified. Research in Croatia and at the University of California at Davis has proved, using DNA profiling, that Zinfandel is a clone of the Croatian variety Crljenak. It has long been believed that it was an Italian lost son fathered by the Primitivo Grape. But it is now believed that Primitivo is a brother (or maybe cousin) of Zinfandel in that it was also originally mutated from Crljenak. It is now believed that the first plantings can be traced back to Albania or Greece. It doesn't matter where this little orphan came from because it is totally American now and we can all be very proud.

What better way to celebrate this wonderful grape than a good old fashioned American picnic around our Independance Day.

As usual, please bring an appetizer, side dish, or dessert to share and a bottle of the red stuff/person.This e-mail address is being protected from spam bots, you need JavaScript enabled to view it " targetu003d"_blank" onclicku003d"return top.js.OpenExtLink(window,event,this)"> This e-mail address is being protected from spam bots, you need JavaScript enabled to view it ",1] ); //-->

Thea will have (good) hamburgers and various sausages (but not hot dogs) on the grill, along with some portabella mushroom burgers for the non-omnivores among us.

She would  appreciate knowing whether you are coming--although a friend of hers gave her a framed calligraphied statement to display: "Nobody starves here."

See you there.

3. Go to the fourth light (if you include the one at the end of the ramp), which is Galbraith and Winton Rds. (landmarks: Jiffy Lube, Taco Bell, Shell, BP)

4. Turn right (north) onto Winton

5. Go through two lights, which also involves going past a Krogers and the Brentwood Shopping Center on the left.

7. At first stop sign, make a right (north) onto Cottonwood.

8. 8674 Cottonwood is fifth house on the right, if you count the house on the corner of Hempstead and Cottonwood. 8674 is a white, L-shaped ranch with green garage doors. green awnings, and a huge pine and somewhat smaller blue spruce in the front. Park on the driveway or on the west side of Cottonwood (opposite the house; no parking on east side of street.)

3. Follow Galbraith to Winton

You go through major intersections at Vine (Rt. 4) and where the Ronald Reagan Hwy West exits. You go past Drake Hospital on the left.
