AWS Oregon Pinot Noir Tasting

Pinot Noir owes its fame and worldwide recognition as one of the greatest wine producing grapes to the Burgundy region of France. No one can deny that Burgundy produces some of the worlds greatest Pinot Noir based wines. But one area that has quickly developed a reputation of its own for producing world class Pinot Noir is Oregon. The Pinot Noirs from Oregon are often compared to the famous wines of Burgundy. While this may be somewhat true the wines of Oregon are unique in their own way and in good years can produce some of the best Pinot Noirs found anywhere.
Jim Lamar on AvalonWine.com describes the wonders of pinot as:
“Great Pinot Noir creates a lasting impression on the palate and in the memory. Its aroma can be intense with a ripe-grape, vaguely pepperminty or black cherry aroma. Ripe tomato, mushroom, and barnyard are also common descriptors for identifying Pinot Noir. It is full-bodied and rich but not heavy, high in alcohol, yet neither acidic nor tannic, with substantial flavor despite its delicacy. The most appealing quality of Pinot Noir may be its soft, velvety texture. When right, it is like liquid silk, gently caressing the palate.”
While Oregon produces many great wine varieties Pinot Noir is their flagship wine. AWS gets back on track with a tasting of Oregon Pinot Noir. This is a great chance to sample many great examples of Pinot from this great wine producing region. The tasting will be held at 7:30 on Saturday June 7th, 2008. Dave and Jean Huwer will be your host and you are assured a great range of Oregon Pinots.

Chris Waugh of the WINE CART has been gracious enough to volunteer to host a special tasting for AWS. The theme of the tasting will be a Tour of Spain. More details about the tasting will be presented in the next newsletter. Be assured Jane will make sure this is not an event to miss.

If you have not had a chance to visit the WINE CART do yourself a favor and allocate some time for a real special treat. The owner and employees of the Wine Cart understand what wine is about. Good Friends, Good Times and GOOD wine. Even if you don't live near West Chester it is worth that special trip as I will guarantee you will not be disappointed.
